How Long Does Windshield Replacement Take in Toronto?
Most replacements are done in 60 to 90 minutes. That’s the honest answer for a standard job on a typical sedan or SUV.
But a few things can stretch that timeline, and it’s worth knowing what they are before you book.
What Actually Takes the Time
The glass swap itself is fast. What takes longer:
- Removing old adhesive cleanly without damaging the frame
- Applying new urethane adhesive and letting it set properly
- Recalibrating any camera or sensor mounted behind the glass
That last one is a big one. If your car has a forward-facing camera for lane assist, emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control, it almost always needs to be recalibrated after a windshield swap. Skipping that step can cause the system to misread the road - which is a safety issue, not just a warning light.
Our ADAS Camera Recalibration Service service handles this in-shop right after the glass work. Adding recalibration adds roughly 30 to 60 minutes depending on your vehicle.
Safe Drive-Away Time
This trips people up. The new windshield feels solid immediately, but the urethane adhesive needs time to cure before the glass can handle road stress properly.
Typical safe drive-away time: 1 hour minimum, sometimes up to 4 hours depending on temperature and humidity. We’ll give you the specific window for your job when it’s done. Cold Toronto winters can slow curing slightly, so winter jobs may need a little more patience.
Don’t slam doors hard, avoid car washes, and leave any tape we put on the moulding in place until we tell you it’s safe to remove.
Does Mobile Service Take Longer?
Not really. Our Mobile Auto Glass Service techs carry everything needed to complete a standard replacement at your location. The job time is roughly the same as in-shop. The difference is you don’t have to drive anywhere - which matters a lot when your windshield is cracked badly enough to be unsafe.
